Same Name

Same Name renames all selected files to share a single filename, while keeping each file's original extension. You choose one file from the selection as the "anchor" — its name is applied to every other file.

How It Works

  1. Select the files you want to rename in Windows Explorer.
  2. Right-click and choose FilerFrog → Rename → Same Name.
  3. A dialog shows all selected files. Click on the file whose name you want to use as the anchor.
  4. Click OK to apply.

Every selected file is renamed to match the anchor file's name. Each file keeps its own extension, so there are no conflicts even when multiple file types are involved.

Example: You select three files: Report.docx, Data.xlsx, and Presentation.pptx. You choose Report.docx as the anchor. The files become Report.docx, Report.xlsx, and Report.pptx.

Why Use Same Name?

This feature is useful when you have related files in different formats that should share a common name for easy identification. Instead of renaming each file individually, Same Name handles them all in one step.

Scenario

You have a video file, its subtitle file, and a thumbnail image — movie.mp4, subs_english.srt, and thumb_001.jpg. Many media players expect these files to share the same base name. Select all three, choose movie.mp4 as the anchor, and they become movie.mp4, movie.srt, and movie.jpg.

Tip: Same Name works best when your selected files have different extensions. If multiple files share the same extension, a numeric suffix is added to avoid naming conflicts.
