Sort Desktop
Sort Desktop organizes your desktop icons into clearly labeled visual groups. It categorizes your icons by type — system items, folders, shortcuts, and various file categories — and arranges them into neat panels on your desktop, complete with a custom wallpaper that highlights each group.
How It Works
- Right-click on your desktop and choose FilerFrog → Sort Desktop.
- FilerFrog analyzes all items on your desktop and groups them by category.
- Choose a theme for the visual layout.
- FilerFrog generates a new wallpaper image with labeled panels for each category and arranges your desktop icons into the corresponding areas.
- You are asked whether to save the new arrangement or revert to how things were before.
Icon Categories
Desktop items are automatically sorted into groups such as:
- System — Built-in system icons like Recycle Bin, This PC, etc.
- Folders — All folder shortcuts and links.
- Shortcuts — Application shortcuts (.lnk files).
- Documents — Word, Excel, PDF, text files, and similar.
- Images — Photo and image files.
- Music — Audio files.
- Videos — Video files.
- Other — Anything that does not fit the above categories.
Themes
FilerFrog offers several preset themes with different color schemes and visual styles. Each theme generates a wallpaper image with colored panels and labels that make it easy to see where each category of icons lives on your desktop.
You can also customize themes to match your personal preferences, choosing different colors for each panel.
Save or Revert
After sorting, FilerFrog gives you the choice to keep the new layout or go back to your previous arrangement. This means you can try out a sort risk-free — if you do not like the result, simply choose to revert and everything goes back to the way it was.
Your desktop has accumulated dozens of icons over time — shortcuts, downloads, project folders, and random files scattered everywhere. Run Sort Desktop, pick a theme you like, and in seconds your desktop is organized into clean, labeled sections. If new files land on the desktop later, just re-run the sort to tidy things up again.
Undo Last Sort
Changed your mind? Select Undo Last Sort from the Sort Desktop submenu to restore your desktop icons and wallpaper to their exact positions before the sort.
Multi-Monitor Support
Sort Desktop now correctly handles multi-monitor setups, including configurations where monitors extend to the left or above the primary screen.
